Head Swap for 2003 Mustang Cobra Jan/16/2008 19:49
DTP, I have the dreaded "Tick" in my LH cylinder head. I am looking at swapping the heads out with the 05 revised replacement heads with FRPP hi lift cams, but it requires the engine to be pulled to do it. Go figure! Kimnach Ford quoted me $2375.00 labor to swap the heads out. Do you know anywhere else I could have it done (reputable SVT Mustang guys), who would take care of my car (paint is perfect) and guarantee their work?

Additonally, I am going to have my Eaton ported stage 5 from Steigmier w/ a 2.8 pulley, boost a pump, 60lb injectors and JLT Hi Flow CAI put on. I will need a good tune from you guys. Thanks, Craig

Hey Graig, We (DTP) could do this for you. Just give frank a call at the shop for a price.

Hey Craig, did that price include any parts?

Hey Frank, $2375 was labor only. They only want to change one head and replace it with an OEM replacement. That will fix the problem for now but it will most likely come back. The replacement head is an additional $950.00 and I don't know if that includes a gasket kit. I am trying to get Ford to replace the heads with the 05 Revised Heads for free. This is a long time known issue with the 03 Cobra heads and my car only has 8600 miles on it (highway and in town miles) no track miles.

Honestly, the labor side of things with us would be around $12-1300...plus parts, fluids, etc

Hey Frank sounds good. I will difinately give you a call if my letter doesn't get any traction and Ford doesn't fix the problem. I've decided to forego the Steigmiere stage 5 and just buy a 2.3L Whipple. Am I off the mark on any of these mods?

FRPP 2.3L Whipple w/ 17lb pulley
60lb injectors
Kenne Bell BAP
SCT BA-3000
SCT X3 Flash Tuner
JLT 12" Hi Boost CAI
Ford GT Cams (Possibility)

Question: If I have DTP swap my heads, you will have to remove the Eaton anyway. My plan would be to have DTP install the new Whipple once the head install was complete, then dyno tune the car for me. Would this be a problem?

Right on, Right on! As soon as I hear back from Ford, I will know what direction I will be going. At the least I will need DTP's expert tuning services. I guess my last question is, will I need an new chip or will the SCT X3 and the SCT BA-3000 be enough to manage the air/fuel settings with the stock ECU? Thanks for the time you've spent answering my questions.
